Earlier this year, a NSW metro pharmacy contacted Allfin after expanding its GLP-1 offering and increasing weekly deliveries from its wholesaler. Their existing insurance policy included deterioration-of-stock and fridge cover, but no transit protection for stock damaged enroute.

We reviewed the policy and flagged the gap immediately. The pharmacy was receiving $40,000-$50,000 of refrigerated stock weekly. A single delivery incident could result in a total loss. We recommended switching to a specialist healthcare insurer that included $60,000 in refrigerated transit cover, with protection for temperature excursions, delivery delays and accidental damage.

Delivery incident triggers major claim.

In early February, a courier vehicle transporting GLP-1 stock was involved in a minor accident. The refrigerated compartment was compromised, and by the time the delivery reached the pharmacy, the temperature logs showed a sustained excursion. The wholesaler refused replacement due to courier fault, and the pharmacy was left with $42,000 in unusable stock.

The client contacted Allfin immediately. We lodged the claim with the new insurer, including delivery logs, temperature data and stock valuation.

After a $500 excess, the pharmacy received a $41,500 payout – covering the full value of the compromised delivery. Under their previous policy, they would have received nothing, as transit damage was excluded.

This case highlights the importance of transit specific insurance clauses, especially for pharmacies receiving high-value refrigerated stock. Many policies assume risk begins only once stock is on premises, but for most pharmacies, risk starts the moment it leaves the wholesaler.

At Allfin, we don’t just review policies, we interrogate operational risk and match coverage. If your pharmacy receives high-value refrigerated deliveries, now is the time to review your insurance.

Contact the Allfin team to book a policy review before your next renewal.
